Originally, I would have given the cookbook 3 or 4 stars because some of the fusion recipes are so far from traditional Asian dumplings they just were not what I was looking for.
However, over time and having satisfied my craving for Asian dumplings, I began to try some of the other recipes in the book. They are delicious.
Try the Maple and Pork Apple dumplings, and the Orange Chicken dumplings. Yum!
Follow the recipe for basic dumpling dough rather than using those from the grocery store. It's easy and the end product is delicious. The recipe is great as is. I added 1 tablespoon of flax meal, and some pepper flakes in subsequent batches of dough. It gives them a little more fiber and nutrition as well as flavor. I plan on working my way through most of the recipes.

First, this was a delightfully informative cookbook. It’s inventive and traditional and made from scratch, like the recipes. I really appreciate that the author includes a basic dumpling wrapper recipe for those that like to start from complete scratch. Though, of course, if I am feeling lazy or short of time, I can always use the pre-made wrappers available at my local grocery store.

This book has a wide range of appeal. There’s recipes for vegetarians and recipes for meat lovers as well. I also quite enjoyed the culture food fusion recipes, like the Mushroom and Ricotta Dumplings recipe. There’s dumplings for the sweet tooth as plenty of savory dumpling recipes.

The book is well organized and easy to navigate. The recipes are simple and straight forward. I can easily see making modifications for taste or dietary reasons (or if I simply don’t have one of the ingredients handy). This book made it easy for me to make some spin offs and it was fun explore the possibilities. I especially liked the Hispanic dumpling recipes as we do plenty of Hispanic cooking and turning some of the left overs into dumplings was a nice change of pace. In fact, there is a whole section on taking your left overs and turning them into dumplings. This just seems like a natural thing to do. While I didn’t try any of the sauce recipes (rather just went sauceless or just a little soy for me), I am glad the book includes them for when I want to be fancy and serve dumplings to family and friends.

The wonton soup and dumpling soup recipes are a nice edition as well. While I did not try any of these (yet!), I have made wonton soup in the past and I look forward to trying these recipes out. Also, the book comes with a little bonus to treat your four legged friends as well. Of course my dog would love to try a dumpling! For those that worry about it, there’s a handy metric volume conversion table near the end. There’s a handful of pictures scattered through the book and these made a nice little addition. Food is beautiful and it is nice to have a visual reminder of that.

I received a review copy of this book via Reading Addiction Book Tours.
My husband loves most of the foods across Asia. Well, technically he's not into Borscht Soup (and somehow or another all the beets I purchase immediately disappear through mysterious circumstance) but that is probably because I have not learned a proper recipe yet. He adores these styles of dumplings, though, so the moment I saw this book I knew I had a winner for our household.

It's a fun cookbook! A bit of work on the crust making (if you are into crust making as I am), but worth your while once you taste the results (you can also even buy the wrappers thoughtfully offered at the store and not worry about it). There are even dessert dumplings. One of them involves smores and is so much more tasty than you thought possible.

If you need something to serve guests for a small party, this book has some great ideas!
This is a great cookbook about dumplings. Savory dumplings and sweet (dessert) dumplings. All mouthwatering. The author does a nice job introducing the dumpling and its connection to her. It seems as if the dumpling allowed her to integrate more into the Chinese culture. She has taken her love of this food and transformed it into a receptical for Asian, Mexican and holiday leftover fillings. She also explains wok use which, always having a gas stove, did not realize the electric stove could prove problematic unless you a flat bottom wok.
I've put several dumplings and sauces on my to make list and wrote the ingredients on my shopping list. I have made empanadas so I'm hopeful I can make up dumplings that will look like what's on the pages of the cookbook. However she does recommend the dumpling maker which I think is a great idea, especially for uniformity. She also admits that some ingredients may be difficult to find unless you head to a specialty grocery store. I will probably pass on those recipes.
This is a good book to have on hand especially for making something for parties or make ahead and freeze.
I am recommending you add this book to your cookbook library. Now I'm looking forward to her second dumpling cookbook for even more mouthwatering recipes.

I love it!
Not as exciting as I was hoping but not bad.
I really enjoyed this cookbook. The recipes are fun and easy. The images and little icons throughout really show that the author put a lot if live into this book. Highly recommend!!
Amanda Roberts has created a lovely collection of both traditional and non-traditional dumplings for the average home cook. Who would have thought that mixing different ethnic cuisines and sweets into dumplings would be so very tasty. This is a very good cookbook with easy to obtain ingredients, simple to follow recipes, and the addition of from scratch sauce recipes for some of the more adventurous cooks.
